Customers Management were interested in z/Linux because of the customers legacy systems, and a wish to utilise current mainframe resources.

Analysis of customers current setup were performed and it was decided to POC Linux/Open Source capabilities for various parts of infrastructure and select applications.

Microsoft shared network driveSAMBA
Novell NetwareSuSE Linux (SLeS)
Novell Directory ServiceLDAP
Microsoft print serverCommon Unix Printing System (CUPS)
Microsoft DNSBIND

The Open Source parts were installed and a system demo was planned, with the intent to show the capabilities of the Open Source parts compared to the already implemented customer parts.

At the first system demo nothing worked as planned, and as it was later discovered, because the customers employees had deliberately changed IP adresses in their infrastructure, with the intent to ensure system demo failed.

The POC was cancelled following several successful attempts from the customers employees to implement changes to customers infrastructure, to ensure malfunction of z/Linux POC applications.
