A project which provided an overview of customers current hardware and software assets, and implementation of a Software Asset Management (SAM) tool, as well as assistance on providing a detailed software asset overview and optimisation of current processes.

The application chosen for the task was Flexera, as it offered advanced features which satisfied the customers criteria.

Due to the customers organisation, it was not a possibility to implement SAM tool and perform an inventory scan or perform scan via Microsoft tools (SCOM/SCCM), which meant that assets and inventory scans were performed via scripts and imported into Flexera.

As it usually is with global organisations, they operated with centralised purchase of software and had supplied with local software purchases which made it a little more difficult to provide a complete overview, because data comes from many different sources.

A project milestone was completion of inventory scan, at which the number of Flexera license seats were above 85.000 – meaning there was a need to analyse more than 85.000 records to provide the detailed software asset overview – a full license report.

At project completion, the project had:

  • Performed inventory scan of 85.000+ devices
  • Normalised and provided license report for four (4) major software vendors
  • Performed true up, based on license reports

The POC was cancelled following several successful attempts from the customers employees to implement changes to customers infrastructure, to ensure malfunction of z/Linux POC applications.
